process of design
Whether large or small, every project is unique and requires careful consideration of the client’s objectives and the characteristics of the site. The Studio approaches the design process as a partnership, and clients can expect a close collaboration as we strive to reach the design goals together.
Pre-Design Vision Session
This initial meeting is the first step in bringing your project to life. During this session, we take the time to understand your aspirations, lifestyle, and functional needs, as well as your budget, site, and timeline. We’ll explore your ideas, discuss design possibilities, and identify any challenges and opportunities unique to your project.
This meeting allows us to establish a shared vision and outline the next steps in the design process, ensuring that every decision moving forward is grounded in a clear understanding of your goals and values.
This one-hour consultation is offered at a flat fee of $250, which ensures you receive dedicated time and tailored advice specific to your project. If you move forward with a full design service, this fee will be credited toward your project.
1. Explore
The first step in any design process is fact-finding, where existing conditions are measured and documented, more thorough understanding of the site conditions, and begin to define the character and feel of the space we wish to create together. This includes expanding your current and future expectations/goals, pulling all relevant background information, and summarizing any site constraints and potentials and performing any due diligence zoning analyses.
2. Propose
In the next phase of design, the goal is to summarize the above into a series of options that can be evaluated against the original design intentions. Does this meet the goals set out in the beginning? By measuring the pros and cons of each alternative, a final solution begins to emerge.
3. Refine
As we move toward a singular plan, all decisions go into reinforcing the design as a cohesive vision. This then becomes the foundation of the documentation for filing, bidding, and construction.
